Bridges and Crowns in Maryborough

Senior woman in dental chairAccidents and ageing can wreak havoc on our mouths, but thankfully, we can fix our beautiful smiles through crowns and bridges. A bridge will likely be the best fit if you’ve lost a tooth or several teeth. If you have a broken tooth, a cap – or crown, as it is called in dentistry – will be used to make it whole again.

No matter the situation, the team at Pullen Dental is ready to help you!

What to Expect During Your Crown Appointment

Crowns are the best option for patients who may have already had a filling in a particular tooth, but it may have been too big of a filling. If they don’t have a cap on that tooth like a crown provides, it may crumble over time.

They’re also used when a patient has had a root canal on a tooth, and we need to protect the structure of what remains of the tooth. Without a crown, the tooth again will likely crumble or break away.

When you arrive for your first appointment for a crown, an impression will be made and sent to the lab, where the crown is created. We will place a temporary crown on your tooth to hold its integrity during the manufacturing time for the crown, which takes about two weeks.

Once the crown comes back, you will have another appointment scheduled, and during that time, the dentist will cement and cure the crown onto the tooth. The crown, with proper care, can last upward of 20 years and comes with a two-year warranty.

Prepping for and Receiving Your Bridge

When you arrive for your first appointment, the dentist will prepare the teeth along both sides of the missing tooth or teeth, take an impression, and send it on to the lab, where the actual bridge will be created. It takes about two weeks for the lab to send the finished bridge back to us.

During the second appointment, if you have a temporary bridge, it will be removed. We then use a special cement to attach the bridge to your existing teeth and curate it.

Dental bridges can last up to 20 years when patients properly care for them.
